A great majority of servicing companies in the US uses Mortgage Servicing Package computer platform to service their portfolio of loans. MSP is owned by Lender Processing Services, (LPS). LPS maintains a huge datacenter in Jacksonville Florida where databases maintain millions of mortgage loans. A servicer purchases a license to use the system; however it does not own nor control the computer system. It's all owned by LPS. Servicers access MSP via a web interface. This video gives a nice visual summary of MSP and its functionalities. For discovery purposes, it is important to note that servicers who use MSP, have no control over the backup procedure or the data integrity procedure. This raises foundation questions when a servicer attempt to introduce documentary evidence pulled from a computer system they have no control over.
